The Modern Day Love Story

Next morning, I went to her place. The door, which was always locked from inside was left open and as I entered the house, Shivangi was sitting there.

I went ahead. She was sitting with her back towards the gate. As I went close to her, I called her name. She turned back, stood. That was the moment when wanted to say a lot, but somehow words weren’t enough. Her eyes went wet. She looked down and shed a tear. I held her face, she looked into my eyes, we both smiled and hugged. I guess we were in that position for more than 10 minutes.

“What’s going on Shivi? Why are you trying to distance yourself from me?”

“Adi. I’m sorry. But I can’t do this.”

“But why? I love you Shivi! Don’t you?”

“I love too Adi. But..”

“But what Shivi?”

“I’m suffering from brain tumor.”

My heartbeat fell down, I was taken aback by her words.

“You are really bad at jokes.” I said.

“That’s not a joke Adi.” She said.

I got down on my knees.

“What is life doing with me? I took 18 years to find my passion, then came to this city and the harsh reality came to me. Three years, no success. My life was filled with failures. Running from everyone, I was depressed. And then you entered my life and taught me the way to live. You taught me that depression is not when you’re running from someone; it’s when you’re running from what’s inside you. My life was finally getting back on track, but now…” I said as tears rolled down my eyes.

Shivangi sat down, held my face and said, “And now you know the right way to live. You don’t need me now.”

A simple, sweet and sober love story: And That’s How It Was Meant To Be

“I wasn’t expecting you to come when you came into my life. But you came; you came and taught me everything, made me what I am today. But now, I don’t want you to leave. I want you to stay with me for the rest of my life.”

“But you ain’t gonna do that. You’re going to leave me. But you know one thing, you leaving, made me realize, I don’t need water to feel like drowning.”

She came forward and hugged me. We were both crying. And yes, that, indeed, was love.

“Come.” I said, holding her hand.

“Where?” She asked.

“On our first official date.”

She had a confused look on her face, whether to be happy or sad.

“Smile now. I wanna make the rest of your life, the rest of ours. And with this limited time I’ve got with you, I can’t afford to waste a single second crying.”

Shivangi smiled, and as she smiled, I knew that this smile is the reason I can do anything for her, her smile could do wonders. I was looking at her, adoring her, and she came forward and kissed me. Heaven was down on earth that day.

After that she said, “Promise me two things Adi.”

“What?” I asked.

“You’ll marry someone after me and will name your daughter Shivangi.” She said.

“Done.” I said.

“You’ll neither look at my dead body nor will you attend my funeral. I don’t want our last memories to be sad.”

“Done.” I said and I kissed her forehead.

I then held her hand and took her out. But as soon as we reached the main gate of her house, she developed immense pain in her head and she went unconscious. Ani came running to her, and we took her to the hospital. When she got her consciousness back, she called me and said,”Those scooty rides with you are my dates. I’ll always love you Adi. Promise me that you’ll always keep this smile with you. And remember those promises that you made.”

“Yeah.” I said with moist eyes,”I love you Shivangi.”

“I love you too Adi. Now go. Keep your promise.”

I had her hand in my hand. I wiped my tears, kissed her forehead, and left. Heaven was truly down on earth that day, taking that angel away. That kiss, as I promised, is our last memory.”

I looked at Alia, she had her eyes glued to me and tears were rolling down from them.

“What happened Alia?” I asked.

“Nothing.” She said as she wiped her tears.

“Don’t cry, or the people here will think that I’m scolding you or something like that.”

“You’re an idiot.” She smiled and said.

“Yeah. So how was my story?”

“I haven’t seen or heard anything like this…. I’ve no words.”

“You are the first one to whom I’ve told all this. None of my friends know this.”

“And why have you told me this.”

“You don’t know reasons sometimes for the things you do. I followed my instincts here.”

“Speechless again!”

I smiled and took the last sip of my coffee.

“How did her absence affect you then?” She asked.

A poem written from the core of my heart to touch yours: Aakhir Kyu

“You know, I was starting to grow at that point of time. I was never ready for her to leave.. but she left, and the way she left have always stayed. And everytime I get to remember her smile, I forgive her for breaking my heart and leaving me. I became more confident and determined then, I begin crafting our story the way I wanted it to happen, because what you cannot fulfill in real life, you tend to fulfill it through your art. That book was my first selected manuscript, and I slowly became a celebrated writer in India with my next two novels… You know, it feels like she took a lot from me the night she left. And yet, all I got is her absence in these bare hands.”

“How can anyone love someone this much.”

“It depends on the person.”

“I envy her.”

“You know what, she was just like you.”

With that I stood up and said, “Let’s go!”

“Yeah.” She said and we came out of that place.
